Introducing... Denise

DeniseHi, I am married to Mike and we have four grown children; three daughters and a son. I have been involved in the early Childhood sector since 1987. I joined the Earlybirds team in 2008 having spent the last 21 years at once centre. I achieved my Diploma of Teching ECE in 2003 and hold Full Teachers Registration.

I believe learning begins at birth and is an ongoing experience. We all need to experience as much of life as we can to develop to our fullest potential. Young children are vulnerable and trusting; I believe we need to ensure that our future generation have the opoportunity to know right from wrong, develop a good self-esteem; are praised for good behaviour and achievements and are not excluded because of race, creed, gender or disability. Each child is a unique individual and deserves the right to live and learn in a safe, secure and stable environment. I find it fulfilling being with children, watching them develop, grow and learn through each new challenge they meet; learning is lifelong. I am a positive role model and I recognise the value of sharing my knowledge with children, parents, students and colleagues as we work as a team to support your child on their journey while they are at the Tui Centre. I value the importance of the extended family/community and the influences they have on today's families.

Tui Centre Goals

We have chosen four goals from Te Whariki to focus on for each child to help them prepare for their next stage of learning; when they turn 4.

  1. For children to develop their independence with self-help and self-care skills for eating, drinking, food preparation, toileting and dressing.
  2. For children to be comfortable with the routines of our centre.
  3. For children to develop social and cooperative skills working with and alongside other children.
  4. For children to gain confidence communicating with teachers/staff and other children conveying their thoughts, feeling and ideas.
